Music Matters is a new series of appreciation lectures given by Asheville FM DJs, volunteers, and affiliates. Topics will vary according to the unique passions of the presenters but will likely focus on the historical, theoretical, or cultural aspects of various genres, artists, bands, labels, and even musical instruments. Every presentation is free to the public, with a suggested donation of $5-$50. Those who donate $50 will automatically become AFM members and get a free T-shirt.

Join us on Thursday, January 18th, from 6-8pm at Revolve Studio for More Than Blue: The Genius of Joni Mitchell's For the Roses. Most people hear Joni Mitchell’s name and they think of her fourth album, Blue. Or they think of her sixth album, Court and Spark. But in between was For the Roses. Lush and somber, stentorian and joyous, wise and wistful, it's a gem of 1972, when Mitchell's voice was at the peak of its versatility. Sarah B., host of Asheville FM's Songs for Friends, will share her love and knowledge of this often overlooked album and its fascinating creator. Sarah was raised by two parents who adore Joni Mitchell and has been on intimate terms with For the Roses since she was twelve years old.
