Wounded Hollow started off as a casual creative outlet for upstate, SC musician Corey McDaniels for when logistics of making music with other individuals proved too daunting. Having mostly played a rhythm instrument (electric bass in this case) in different groups didn't leave the possibility of solo performance performance likely until he began experimenting with loop creation.
The stage-sharing of Asheville-based chamber rock group (young) American Landscape and Asheville psychedelic rock band Bask led to recognition of quite a bit of shared influence and life experience between Corey and Bask drummer Scott Middleton. When Scott brought Corey into Asheville shoegaze/electronic band Via to play bass the two of them found themselves with time and opportunity necessary to start crafting some ambient and cinematic soundscapes, sometimes improvised and sometimes composed.
The aim of Wounded Hollow is to eventually incorporate a larger group of players and represent a wide array of sounds and timbres, taking occasional nods and inspiration from film scores, free jazz, post-rock, dub, and other areas as well. Wounded Hollow released "Alchemate" in digital and cassette tape formats in late 2016, a record based largely upon experiences with prescription drugs and thoughts on a potentially overly-medicated society.
