The Mute Sphere creates a soundscape that is a fever dream of Southern musics, re-imagined through shifting industrial, analog, and synthetic contexts. The Atlanta-based quintet explores the themes of horror, anxiety, and hope that underlie contemporary life through its idiosyncratic instrumentation of voice, cello, fiddle, prepared guitar, analog synthesizer, and percussion, in a dynamic musical space where composition and improvisation equally interact. Comprised of longstanding members of Georgia’s progressive music communities—including members of Faun and a Pan Flute, Hello Ocho, the Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra, Moth Sweat, the Past Now Tomorrow record label, and Atlanta's Cleaners arts space—and taking inspiration from the music of Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time, Ennio Morricone, and This Heat, the Mute Sphere is dedicated to practice of group collaboration, creative exploration, and the development of novel conceptions of Southern music traditions.
